HW 12-10

In class today we took a test. I did pretty well, scoring an 82% if I remember correctly. It was fairly easy. I only wish I had paid more attention to small details whilst studying instead of skimming for main points. I'm not sure where I had trouble, as I only got to glance at the grade. I will definitely by studying very hard for exams. If I get all 90's and one 85% I may be getting a dog for Christmas :3

Today in class we talked about movies. We found out that Mr. Schick has worked on some pretty awesome movies. We also learned that one of Mr. Schick's past students is now working in the movie "Unbroken" which is awesome. Mr. Schick wrote an awesome "Millionaire" cover.

Jews, Christians, and Muslims all claim Jerusalem as their religious holy site. They are constantly fighting over the land.

hw 11/18

Cultural geography Ideas and themes which the group will teach to all members. These same characteristics can also link or divide a region Examples of Cultural Characteristics Language (used me as an example) religion and heritage We were showed a map about what different counties in the country call "soda." Obviously we call it soda. Many other places in the U.S call it pop, like Mr. Schick. Also we talked about how some people just straight up call it coke. Any kind of soda is just coke. An example that was used is - hey can you grab me a coke? ~ sure. what kind? - 7up please. I was also used in another example, when we talked about me getting baptized and my head spinning around like in the Exorcist, it was a pretty funny class.

HW 11-14-14

Japan's national anthem. I found it extremely peaceful and actually really nice. It is not militaristic at all. It does sound like old-fashioned Japanese. It's short and sweet and doesn't talk about bombs, war, killing, or anything other than peace and tranquility. It's all about nature and just existing, not destroying Britain or seeing through the night because of explosions (which is pretty cool, but still). It's all about nature. Lyrics: 君が代は 千代に八千代に さざれ(細)石の いわお(巌)となりて こけ(苔)の生すまで or May your reign Continue for a thousand, eight thousand generations, Until the pebbles Grow into boulders Lush with moss

11-13 homework

Today in class we took a test. I found it pretty easy. however, i think i may have made a couple mistakes. I thought i remembered you lecturing me about how Putin used chemical warfare against his own people. Apparently I was wrong. It was Bashar al-Assad who did that. I am confident that i did well on the test, however, and i think that i only got that and maybe one other thing wrong.

Homework 11-12

today in class, we talked a lot about impeachment. We went over overthrowing the countries leaders, which in some countries is illegal in itself. I'm not sure how I think about assassination. If they are seriously hurting people and they are dying for no apparent reason. For instance, al-Assad has been torturing inmates. In the Syria prisons. I have seen pictures of the corpses, and they have died harsh, painful deaths at the hands of their government. He also openly supports ISIS. Is this all enough to consider assassination? Maybe not yet, but he is certainly on the right track.

11/6/2014 Homework

Today in class, Kendle and I presented our PowerPoint. I hate public speaking. It is a terrible, terrible thing to do to a teenager, or anybody for that matter. Public speaking is kinda like the punishment for the demons that Satan thinks require punishment, And if the Devil thinks something is bad, it's BAD. Just my opinion though. And everybody else's....
At my old school I had to deliver a speech to all the students in third through eighth grade. I, of course, had to go first in my group (All eighth graders had to give a speech on the topic we chose. We presented to the school in small groups on Fridays). I was terrified. However I was talking about a topic which I knew well, Scuba Diving, and easily preached to the crowd. I'm just glad the lights were in face and were too bright for me to see all the faces starring up at me. I tend to get more comfortable speaking in class as I get to know my peers. Don't worry though, Mr. Schick, I realize that I need to start taking school more seriously; starting about.... say..... 9 years ago, perhaps?

HW 10/23

In class we continued discussing things that effected the lives of major political leaders. We talked about Mr. Schick's past. He graduated in three and a half years. We brushed up on the current events in Washington DC. I do, however, miss talking about Socrates. He was a lot of fun to talk about and study. A lot of his quotes I still struggle to understand. I also need to take school more seriously. My license, my social life, and my future in general are riding on it. I'm still waiting for the day I see Mr. Schick ride up on a Harley!

homework 9/5/2014

In class we talked more about Socrates and his readiness to die for the system he believed in. We had a VERY deep class about death. We also talked about how Mr. Schick's dogs may have a sixth sense. The one dog, Zeus I believe, knew that there was something wrong with his friend. Taco Bell Burrito also may have become an atheist. We also came up with a theory that Socrates may have died out of curiosity to see what happens after death. We thought this because he chose to die, though he had the chance to flee Athens. We also discussed his quote "the unexamined life is not worth living." We think it means that you should plan out your life and make it count.

homework 9/4/2014

Today in class we talked more about the Agora and Socrates. We talked about how much Socrates valued democracy. He gave his life because he valued the system so much. He had the opportunity to escape before he was to be executed but he chose to stay. He was sentenced to forced suicide where he would have to drink hemlock poison. Everyone knew how bad of a death hemlock poison was. The following was taken off of emedicine.com "Poison hemlock: Signs of poison hemlock toxicity can be divided into an early stimulation phase and, in severe poisonings, a later depressant phase.
Emesis [means vomiting]
Salivation [drooling]
Mydriasis [means excessive dilation of pupils]
Tachycardia, [heart palpitations] then bradycardia[abnormally slow heartbeat]
Initial fasciculations [small muscle twitches all over the body], then flaccid paralysis
Hypoventilation [can't breathe], respiratory arrest"

"and he walked about until, as he said, his legs began to fail, and then he lay on his back, according to the directions, and the man who gave him the poison now and then looked at his feet and legs; and after a while he pressed his foot hard and asked him if he could feel; and he said, no; and then his leg, and so upwards and upwards, and showed us that he was cold and stiff. And he felt them himself, and said: When the poison reaches the heart, that will be the end. He was beginning to grow cold about the groin, when he uncovered his face, for he had covered himself up, and said (they were his last words)—he said: Crito, I owe a cock to Asclepius; will you remember to pay the debt? The debt shall be paid, said Crito; is there anything else? There was no answer to this question; but in a minute or two a movement was heard, and the attendants uncovered him; his eyes were set, and Crito closed his eyes and mouth." - Phaedro

Homework 8/28

Today in class we checked to see who all had entered blogs. While Mr. Schick checked our blogs we talked and played snake. I also changed the title of my blog from Adam's Human Geo to The Most Entertaining Blog Ever. It would be funny to get a few hundred views. It seems like this is going to be a contest to see who can get the most hits. It's funny to see people from so many different countries visiting people's blog. I don't think they realize that Tacobellburrito.blogspot.com is just Cody, and not a Taco Bell Burrito's blog. One thing I've found is that it is very hard to come up with one hundred and fifty words about class right now because we have mostly been just checking blogs. I think it will get easier to write about when we have notes for it to be based off of. At this point I am mostly trying to stretch this out as far as I can.

homework 8/26

John Carroll seems like a really fun school. All the students are friendly and the teachers are fair. My day started off with Mr. Schick in Human Geography. Next I had three free mods where I hung out with friends and ate some really good chicken nuggets. After the free mods I went to English 1. English seems like it will be the most intensive subject. After English I had Honors Spanish 1. To my surprise, I understood just about everything the teacher was saying. Next I was off to Earth Science, where I found out that Mr. Perry isn't nearly as bad as he's built up to be. I found him to be funny and the class went by fast. The day closed with Algebra 1. Now, not being a math person, I had pretty low hopes for this class. What I found was actually pretty surprising. The teacher does her best to keep the class fun and fair, and seems like one of the first math teachers I've had that really cares about the well being of her students. I expect my Freshman year at John Carroll to go bye fast.
